Hot Tub Filters: What Is the Best Style for Your Hot Tub?

Choosing the right filter for your hot tub is crucial for maintaining water quality and ensuring the longevity of your spa. This article discusses the different types of hot tub filters, with a focus on the unique horizontal filters exclusive to Sundance® Spas.

Types of Hot Tub Filters

Cartridge Filters

Description:

• Cartridge filters are the most common type used in hot tubs. Made from pleated polyester or other synthetic materials, they are effective at trapping dirt, debris, and contaminants.

Sizes:

• These filters come in various sizes to fit different hot tub models. It's important to choose the right size to ensure optimal performance.

Lifespan:

• Cartridge filters typically last between 1 to 2 years, depending on usage and maintenance.

Sand Filters

Description:

• Sand filters use sand to filter out impurities from the water. They are durable and require less frequent cleaning compared to cartridge filters.

Sizes:

• These are generally used in larger hot tubs and pools due to their capacity to handle a higher volume of water.

Lifespan:

• Sand filters can last up to 5 years with proper maintenance.

DE (Diatomaceous Earth) Filters

Description:

• DE filters use diatomaceous earth to capture even the smallest particles, offering superior filtration.

Sizes:

• These filters are suitable for both residential and commercial hot tubs, available in various sizes to match different needs.

Lifespan:

• DE filters have a lifespan of about 2 to 3 years, requiring regular maintenance to perform effectively.

The Unique Horizontal Filter by Sundance® Spas

Innovative Design

Horizontal Placement:

• Unlike traditional vertical filters, the exclusive horizontal filter in Sundance® Spas lies flat. This design allows for a larger filtration area within the same amount of space, increasing efficiency.

Benefits

Enhanced Filtration:

• The horizontal filter can trap more debris and contaminants due to its larger surface area. This results in cleaner, clearer water with less frequent cleaning.

Longevity:

• Horizontal filters in Sundance® Spas are built to last, providing several years of effective filtration with proper care.

Ease of Maintenance:

• The design makes it easier to access and clean the filter, reducing the time and effort needed for regular maintenance.

How Long Do Hot Tub Filters Last?

Factors Affecting Lifespan

Usage Frequency:

• More frequent use of the hot tub means the filter will need to be cleaned and replaced more often.

Water Chemistry:

• Maintaining balanced water chemistry helps prolong the life of the filter by preventing scale and corrosion.

Maintenance:

• Regular cleaning and proper care significantly extend the lifespan of hot tub filters.

General Lifespan

• Cartridge Filters: 1 to 2 years
• Sand Filters: Up to 5 years
• DE Filters: 2 to 3 years
• Sundance® Horizontal Filters: Several years with proper maintenance

Choosing the best hot tub filter depends on your specific needs and the type of hot tub you own. Cartridge, sand, and DE filters each have their advantages, but the innovative horizontal filter exclusive to Sundance® Spas offers enhanced filtration, longevity, and ease of maintenance. Regular care and maintenance will ensure your hot tub filters last as long as possible, providing you with clean, clear water and an optimal hot tub experience.
